Megan is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who sees clients in the Chicago-Lakeview office and via telehealth.

Changes in life can be difficult. Changes we might view as positive can sometimes bring up feelings of anxiety, negative feelings about oneself, depression, and many additional feelings we are not sure what to do with. Changes can also come from relationships, family acceptance, and loss of loved ones. How we view the world, and how we feel accepted in the world, can also impact changes for us related to our cultural identity. Having a therapist who supports LGBTQI+ can be a part of your personal work in therapy.

The challenges of life – both perceived as positive and negative – can lead us to therapy for navigation through changes in life direction. Using the mind and body together through mindfulness work is one approach I find beneficial in therapy. Therapy can guide you towards acceptance of change and work toward commitment to positive changes that align with your personal values and beliefs. Goals in therapy may include feelings of acceptance of oneself in the world, positive feelings of self-worth, strength in identity, increase in motivation and strength to work through stressful times or future life changes. Therapy may also assist to create a positive space for you to connect your physical feelings with your thoughts and emotions to increase awareness for positive change in mood and behavior. My approach in therapy is to reflect on the past and how that can influence where you are today, and then work in the present to reach goals using mindfulness and values-based therapy approaches.
