Joy Walsh, LCSW, Clinical Director & Therapist

Joy Walsh is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Director of Bricolage, seeing clients in the Aurora and Lombard locations.

Hello there, I’m Joy Walsh!

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social worker, but you might also call me a self love gardener, values explorer, or a creative confidant. I help people who long to feel that they are living genuinely, sick of feeling anxious or depressed, or want to never again re-experience their traumas, but fear the healing process or making the changes to do these things. I teach my clients how to explore and learn who they really are, what they really need, and the tools they best respond to so that they can move forward in their life with open arms, hearts and minds!

I know from my own personal exploration and healing from significant loss that it’s easier to move through the process and feel vulnerable when you have a safe and non-judgmental space or person to sit with you, listen, be a sounding board and cheer you on. It can be such a scary decision of who or where that might be, but to start by asking for help anywhere you feel a connection is your superpower.

I believe that self acceptance and genuine human connection will change the world. That’s why I hope you can jump start your healing and schedule a free 15 minute consultation to see if you and I are a good fit.

You are not broken, so you don’t need to “fix” anything.

You have already proven your strength by looking for a potential therapist and knowing that asking for help is a super power. I believe strongly in client’s self-determination, their right to make their own decisions. I am here to support you by helping you identify all of your options, gain objectivity, make the choice that is most genuine for you and learn to accept whatever natural consequences are a result. I will offer you a judgment free space to explore and gain insight.

I am so passionate about working with women, teens, millennials or those just now finding independence. I love helping people learn how to better manage mood disorders, relationship with yourself, relational boundaries, loss, stress/trauma management, and overall personal discovery and growth. I also have a wealth of experience working with those in early recovery from addictions and family members within addiction dynamics.

At every touch point I teach and practice from a place of integrity and authenticity. My focus is clear as I work within the realm of my values as a clinician: emotional awareness, identifying values, recognizing patterns, practicing mindfulness and empowerment.

I work with my client to create a treatment approach for them that is as unique as they and their story are. I do this by using creative and mindful therapy techniques as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My experience in helping clients overcome challenges includes anxiety, depression, mood disorders, women’s issues, self-esteem, addiction, trauma/sexual trauma, and relationship or family conflict. I earned a BA in Human Services from Millikin University, Masters in Social Work from Aurora University, and a Type 73 certification as a School Social Worker. I am also a member of the National Association of Social Workers.

My passion for therapy is derived from my own ability to overcome challenges and build resiliency from the support I received after I experienced loss at a young age. Since then, I have learned to be a wife, new mom, and aunt as well as continued my roles as daughter, sister, and friend. I live my life authentically and believe in the good and personal strength in everyone. Outside of my work, I love to spend time with my family, craft and paint, listen to podcasts and explore my own community.
